Every neighborhood deserves to have access to great parks. Philadelphia's park system, however, has been severely underfunded for decades, which has caused maintenance and capital improvements projects to be delayed or abandoned altogether. We can begin to fix this problem by increasing funding for parks. Great parks enhance our quality of life, help mitigate pollution, and boost property values. They also improve public health by encouraging physical activity and even improve mental and emotional wellbeing.
Let us heed the call of Parks & Recreation Commissioner Michael DiBernardinis, and triple our park space funding. Maintenance and capital improvements projects can't wait any longer.
