What changes could we see from PennDOT's upcoming Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan? It depends on what they hear from Pennsylvania residents! 

On June 25th at Industrious, we'll hear from Roy Gothie, Pedestrian and Bicycle Coordinator at PennDOT, about the Commonwealth's upcoming plan for increasing biking and walking and improving safety. 

Gothie will give a presentation on the plan, followed by an audience Q&A. We'll also discuss what the plan will mean for PennDOT's collection of arterials and state routes downtown and in our neighborhoods, which are often some of the most dangerous in the city for pedestrians and cyclists.

This event is hosted by the Bicycle Coalition, the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals, Rails to Trails Conservancy, and 5th Square.

"The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is developing an updated Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan for Pennsylvania that will outline a vision and framework for improving conditions for walking and bicycling across Pennsylvania, most notably for those Pennsylvanians who walk and bicycle out of necessity rather than for leisure and recreation. The Master Plan will also identify and help prioritize strategies that increase the number of people walking and bicycling, while supporting safety and multimodal connectivity throughout the state.

The Pennsylvania Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan will be developed during 2018 and completed by fall 2019. The public will be continuously engaged during the PennDOT Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan project through an online project survey and interactive webinars.

Once completed, the Pennsylvania Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan will be a resource for Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), Rural Planning Organizations (RPOs), and Municipalities throughout Pennsylvania providing guidance to local governments as they develop and implement regional and local bicycle and pedestrian plans."
