5th Square Supports the Emergency Housing Protection Act

We are extending our full support for the Emergency Housing Protection Act proposed by Councilmembers Helen Gym, Kendra Brooks and Jamie Gauthier. This package of six bills would protect renters from eviction and late fees, and creates programs to facilitate the long-term payment of rent for those currently unable to pay.

As the economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect our city and its residents, Philadelphia City Council must act quickly to pass this legislation in order to avoid a massive wave of evictions.

5th Square believes that housing is a human right and this plan would protect the most vulnerable renters from homelessness while also taking steps to ensure landlords get paid.
