November Monthly Meet-up w/ Prof. Greg Shill

Join us this Thursday, November 21st for 5th Square's monthly meet-up, at Triple Bottom Brewing from 6-8 pm.

Our monthly meet-ups are a great way to get to know 5th Square members and volunteers, hear from guest speakers on urbanist topics, and start to get involved in transportation and planning politics in your neighborhood.

This month we'll be at Triple Bottom Brewing and will be hearing from Professor Greg Shill of University of Iowa. Professor Shill is in town for a morning discussion at Obermeyer about his forthcoming paper "Should Law Subsidize Driving" that we're co-hosting with Delaware Valley Smart Growth Alliance.

He'll be joining in the evening to talk with our members and volunteers about this topic, and we'll be discussing what 5th Square is working on to create a more balanced transportation policy in Philadelphia.

Read the paper or this shorter magazine article-length version of Dr. Shill's argument in The Atlantic, reviewing all the ways that the law stacks the deck in favor of automotive transportation to the detriment of cheaper, cleaner, and more space-efficient ways of getting around.
