5th Square is continually seeking volunteers interested in joining our Steering Committee. This position is ideal for someone extremely committed to policy change in the areas of transportation, land use, and public space, and to advance a vision for a more accessible, sustainable, equitable Philadelphia for all residents.
As a member of our Steering Committee, you are expected to participate in in-person meetings bi-monthly and weigh in on ongoing decisions in our Slack workspace as they arise. You can also expect to represent the organization to the media, testify at public hearings, lead campaigns, and help out at our events.
You can expect a time commitment of around 5 hours per week -- occasionally more during periods of heavy campaign organizing & election season, and occasionally less in between election cycles. This is a volunteer role, however, expenses are paid with Chair and Treasurer approval.
5th Square believes that in order to obtain authentic improvements to our built environment, we need people from all backgrounds in the fight. Because of this, we'd like to encourage people that represent the diverse communities of Philadelphia. Especially, people who come from communities that are often unacknowledged in the urbanist movement, including, communities of color, women, people with disabilities, and individuals who identify as Black, Indigenous, multiracial, and/or multicultural, to bring your experience to this role.
