Grays Ferry Bridge Update

Thanks so much for signing our petition calling for a westbound protected bicycle path on the Grays Ferry Bridge. I'm writing to share a few encouraging updates.

We have reached over 500 signers and have some promising news to report!

In response to our petition and local press coverage, PennDOT has issued the following notice on their Grays Ferry Bridge project website:

PennDOT Evaluating Protected Bike Lane Westbound
August 15, 2019 – PennDOT is currently evaluating changes in the construction plans for the Grays Ferry Avenue Bridge improvements that would include a protected bicycle lane on the westbound side of the bridge. We will post follow-up information about this matter when it is available.

Additionally, South Philly Review has written about this petition and received a detailed response from PennDOT that they are currently evaluating the request.

A protected bicycle path in both directions over this bridge would be a win for the often overlooked neighborhoods of Kingsessing and Grays Ferry, providing a new means of access and mobility for those who don't rely on driving as their primary way of getting around.

So many petition signers echo what I feel personally about this bridge: that it would be an extremely convenient connector if it didn't feel as if I was taking my life into my hands every time I use it.

We are sharing the results of this petition in our communications with the City and PennDOT to continue pushing for the westbound protected bike lane.

Thanks again for adding your voice to this effort. Let's all do one final push on the petition to recruit more people to support this campaign, and we will continue to provide you with updates as we have them.
