🌇 SUPPORT EMERGENCY HOUSING PROTECTIONS

5th Square supports the Emergency Housing Protection Act proposed by Councilmembers Gym, Brooks and Gauthier, and calls on the full City Council to pass the 5 bills voted out of committee.

This package of bills would protect renters from eviction and late fees, require mediation before eviction, and create longer-term rent repayment programs for those currently unable to pay.

As the economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect our city and its residents, Philadelphia City Council must act quickly to pass this legislation in order to avoid a massive wave of evictions.

We believe that housing is a human right and this plan would protect the most vulnerable renters from homelessness while also taking steps to ensure landlords get paid.

We are thrilled that five out of six bills have passed City Council Committee and are headed a full Council vote by June 18th.

Show your support for these vital protections today by signing this petition.

🚶🏿🚶🏿 OTIS SURVEY FOR PEDESTRIAN SAFETY

An average of 36 people per year were killed in traffic crashes while walking on Philly streets between 2014 and 2018. All of these deaths were preventable.

Fill out this brief survey by the Office of Transportation, Infrastructure, & Sustainability (OTIS) and help inform the Vision Zero Pedestrian Safety Action Plan.

 📰 FEATURED NEWS

The recent protests throughout our region and our nation have brought some positive symbolic changes to our shared public space. The long-overdue removal of two prominent racist symbols, the Frank Rizzo Statue in front of MSB and the Frank Rizzo Mural in the Italian Market, are fantastic developments that show the power of protest to quickly move public opinion, but these early steps need to be followed up with concrete actions geared toward protecting the safety and health of Black residents.
