Pedestrian Hours in the Italian Market: Next Steps for Advocacy

Do you want to see weekend pedestrian hours on 9th Street in the Italian Market?

Come to a meeting on Monday, April 29th, where we'll be talking all about how to make it happen.

5th Square, Philadelphia's urbanist political action committee, is convening a strategic discussion with Bella Vista and Passyunk Square-area supporters about possible organizing strategies for moving this idea forward. Neighbors and any interested parties are invited to join us on Monday, April 29th at P'unk Ave (1168 E Passyunk Ave) starting at 6:00 pm

Due to the overwhelming support we saw for our recent petition opposing driveways in the lower Italian Market, and the positive response to the follow-up op-ed 'It's Time to Pedestrianize the Italian Market' by our friend and volunteer Katrina Johnston-Zimmerman of the Lindy Institute, we think the ingredients are all there for a successful campaign to make the Market a better pedestrian space and a more successful commercial corridor at the same time.

The purpose of this discussion isn't to debate pedestrian hours in the Market. For now, we want to talk with those who already support some form of this idea and want to help organize to make it happen.

Space is limited, so we're only going to be inviting petition signers at first. If you know someone who supports this idea who should be there, please send them to this page or have them email us at [email protected].

We'll email an agenda to those who RSVP a few days before the meeting. Light refreshments will be provided.
