🍻 MEETUP TOMORROW

Join us tomorrow at 6pm for an informal, in-person meet-up over at Pennsport Beer Boutique!

We will be welcoming Councilmembers Mark Squilla and Rue Landau as well as Transit Forward Philly's Stephen Bronskill for an update on the transit funding fight.

This is an outdoor, family-friendly event where we will provide updates on our recent campaigns. We will also be discussing mobility, safe streets, and access to transit specific to South Philly.

🚌 VOLUNTEER TO SAVE SEPTA

SEPTA cuts are getting closer and closer, but we can still stop them!

You can help by volunteering at one of these Save SEPTA volunteer events this week:

  • [Today] Tuesday, July 22nd (12:00pm-1:30pm) - Virtual Phonebank aimed at engaging transit supporters in key State Senate districts

  • [Today] Tuesday, July 22nd (4:30pm) - Save SEPTA Flyering - SEPTA will begin posting service cut notices at 3,000 bus stops this week. We want to let riders know it's not too late to prevent these cuts and how they can contact their legislators.

  • Wednesday, July 23rd (early AM) - West Trenton Line Canvass in stations represented by Senator Farry and Picozzi

If you can't make any of these events, there are plenty more scheduled here.

And next Tuesday, join Transit for All PA's statewide meeting of PA transit advocates to learn more about how the fight for transit funding has been going in Harrisburg and what our next steps are.

🚲 SUPPORT PARKING-PROTECTED BIKE LANES

Parking-protected bike lanes are a great way to make our bikes lanes safer and lower stress.

Unfortunately, they are illegal in PA! The parking-protected bike lanes we currently have are only able exist as part of a limited pilot program from PennDOT.

The Bicycle Coalition has long been leading the fight for their legalization and they are reupping their campaign with a petition. Sign it to show your support for safer bike lanes!

🗞️ 5TH SQUARE IN THE NEWS

Philly Mag / Best of Philly Awards - The Philadelphia Bike Community

After Barbara Friedes’s horrific death in the Spruce Street bike lane, Philly cyclists banded together to ensure that her death was not in vain. The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, Philly Bike Action, the 5th Square urbanist PAC, and the Philadelphia chapter of Families for Safe Streets forced action from the city, which had long ignored the problem.

🚨 ACTION ITEMS

🚫 Grays Ferry Is Not a Parking Lot

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is proposing a 1,000-vehicle parking garage at 30th and Grays Ferry Avenue. This garage would be over 70 feet tall, reserved for employees, and would require a separate shuttle service. Sign our petition telling CHOP: Don't Treat Grays Ferry as a Parking Lot

🛣️ Stop I-95 Expansion

PennDOT is planning to expand I-95 in Center City and South Philly by adding lanes and new ramps. This will threaten the well-being of our neighborhoods by worsening air quality, increasing noise pollution, harming our access to the waterfront, and destroying sports facilities. To make matters worse, PennDOT has been deceitful about its engagement efforts.

Join us in telling PennDOT that highway expansion has no place in the core of Philadelphia by signing our petition.
