🕯️ WORLD DAY OF REMEMBRANCE

The Bicycle Coalition, Families for Safe Streets, and Vision Zero Philadelphia are hosting Philly’s World Day of Remembrance on Sunday, November 16th in Fairhill Square Park. WDoR is a global event that honors people who have lost their lives or been impacted by roadway crashes.

There will be a press conference at 11am followed by lunch at 12pm. State Senator Tartaglione and other local electeds will be speaking. We will be pushing to authorize an expansion of automated speed cameras to more corridors throughout Philly to save lives!

Learn more information and RSVP here.

🚗💨 FAIRMOUNT PARK SPEEDING DATA

Philly Bike Action recently threw its inaugural Belmont Speedway Family Picnic in West Fairmount Park.

Families picnicked and Elmo danced as volunteers recorded the unsafe speeds of cars along Belmont Ave.

We're joining with Philly Bike Action to call on elected officials to do something about this dangerous speeding. Sign this petition to ensure people, not cars, are prioritized in Fairmont Park.

🗳️ RETURN YOUR MAIL-IN BALLOTS

Election day is next week on Tuesday, 11/4.

If you're voting by mail, your ballot must be received by the City before 8pm on election day.

If you're voting in person, find your polling place here and find your sample ballot here.

📣 TELL PPD TO PRIORITIZE TRAFFIC SAFETY

Prioritize traffic safety in the PPD Community Survey!

The Philadelphia Police Department is seeking public input to help inform its 5-year plan.

We suggest:

  1. Ranking "Public Safety" (which presumably includes road safety) as "Very Important" in Q1
  2. Listing "Traffic Safety" as an "Every Day" impact in Q2
  3. Speaking to topics such as street safety, reckless driving, speeding, red light enforcement, illegal/obscured plates, etc. in free text Q3 and Q6.

📰 5TH SQUARE IN THE NEWS

The Inquirer: Preserving older properties drives housing affordability, population growth, and investment, says study by historic preservation group

In response to the Preservation Alliance’s study, 5th Square, a Philadelphia-based urbanist political action committee, said it supports efforts to rehabilitate older buildings and that “Philadelphia’s dense, historic neighborhoods are a beloved feature of the city.”

“However, we remain concerned about the proliferation of historical preservation districts across the city,” Brennan Maragh, cochair of the group’s housing committee, said in an emailed statement. “These districts ... impose real costs on families, small businesses, and owners attempting to maintain or improve their properties.”

🚨 ACTION ITEMS

🚲 Parking-Protected Bike Lane Petition

Parking-protected bike lanes are a great way to make our bikes lanes safer and lower stress, but they are illegal in PA! The Bicycle Coalition is fighting for their legalization. Sign their petition to show your support for safer bike lanes!

🚫 Grays Ferry Is Not a Parking Lot

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is proposing a 1,000-vehicle parking garage at 30th and Grays Ferry Avenue. This garage would be over 70 feet tall, reserved for employees, and would require a separate shuttle service. Sign our petition telling CHOP: Don't Treat Grays Ferry as a Parking Lot

🛣️ Stop I-95 Expansion

PennDOT is planning to expand I-95 in Center City and South Philly by adding lanes and new ramps. This will threaten the well-being of our neighborhoods by worsening air quality, increasing noise pollution, harming our access to the waterfront, and destroying sports facilities. To make matters worse, PennDOT has been deceitful about its engagement efforts.

Join us in telling PennDOT that highway expansion has no place in the core of Philadelphia by signing our petition.
