Delaware River Trail Design Public Meeting

Join Delaware River Waterfront Corporation on July 10, 2019, at Cherry Street Pier (121. N. Columbus Boulevard) from 6 pm to 8 pm to see the final designs and renderings and learn more about upcoming construction on the Delaware River Trail.

Construction is anticipated to start in early 2020 and this summer, DRWC will issue plans and specifications for bids on the central section of the Delaware River Trail with preconstruction beginning in fall 2019.

This project entails the reconstruction of the eastern edge of Columbus Boulevard to accommodate a fully separated bi-directional multi-use trail; a concrete pedestrian footway from Washington Avenue to Spring Garden Street; a planted zone between vehicles and bicyclists; and solar lights that will further offset the asphalt from concrete.

This project also advances the City of Philadelphia’s Vision Zero goal of zero traffic-related fatalities by 2030. Columbus Boulevard from Snyder Avenue to Race St. is a High Injury Network street, meaning the Office of Transportation, Infrastructure and Sustainability has identified it as part of the 12 percent of roads that account for 50 percent of injuries and fatalities from 2012 to 2016.

As a key feature of the Master Plan for the Central Delaware, this trail will also link to our improved Washington Avenue Connector as well as sections of trail currently under construction south of Penn Treaty Park and near Pier 70. This project also supports DRWC’s interest in expanding non-motorized and transit connections to our waterfront amenities.
